Joyce,
I couldn't find any matches, even though we have several names in common.
The one that made my heart jump was Adelbert. My grandfather was Roy
Adelbert Card and I have never heard that name before. Knowing that certain
names run in families, it makes me wonder if we don't have a connection some
where.
I am including my basic query here just in case....

My line goes back to England and immigrant Richard Card, born in England and
first found in Newport, RI abt. 1652. The generations between he and
Benjamin below, I have only male names and nothing more.
More recent generations are:
Benjamin CARD d 1897; Venago Co, PA; m Mary Jane LYNCH
James L. CARD 1847--1910; PA; m Mary FARRAH
Roy Adelbert CARD 1883--1956; PA; wife unk
My father was an orphan and I cannot find his mother -- he told me the
mother's name on his birth certificate was incorrect and there is no maiden
name. I have no living relatives to interview.
The story goes like this. He was born in Franklin, PA. At some point he went
to live with his paternal grandparents until his grandmother died in 1911.
At the age of 4 yrs. he was put in an orphanage. His father was alive and
established at least one more family. Even though he died in 1956, my father
had no contact with him.
The only relatives that my dad knew were his half sister and an aunt. We
never talked about it much because it was so painful for him. When he was
ready to retire, he sent for his birth certificate and found that most of it
was wrong (according to his knowledge of his life) --another painful time. My
guess is that he was illegitimate. I do not know the name of the orphanage
in which he was placed -- I think it was in PA.
