It is good to hear from you.As yet I know nothing of the Card family apart
from the fact that my Great Great Grandmother was married to John Card who
died in 1851 leaving 7 children. His widow Mary Card brought 6 of the
children to NZ in 1856 & I am descended from the youngest child,my
Grandfather, who was called John Ellis Carde. He added the "e" to the name.
I wonder if the John who died in 1851 had brothers or sisters? They lived in
Great Amwell in Hertford. He was buried in Ware which is part of the same
area. There was a period when they lived closer to London but I am unsure of
the dates & have no idea where he came from originally. He ws a coachman. His
wife,Mary, was born Beeching.
One of the children in this family either came before Mary to NZ or perhaps
didn't come at all.He was the 2nd child in the family,I do not know his
name. His older sister was called Harriet. One day I'll find out where he went
& what his name was. There was a story that some member of the family went to
South America.I wonder if that was true???
Thank you for your interest.
Regards
Josie Snook
