Anne - Welcome to the newly formed CARBAJAL Mailing List !!! Your name
had escaped my filter, I usually notice when a List of mine has a new
member. You are our first subscriber, this will always be a small list,
CARBAJAL is not a very common surname as you well know. I am the
Administrator of this List. I'd like to begin to Post bits and pieces
of the CARBAJAL name as I find them, at least they will be in our
Archives. This list had no Archives until you're first Post only
recently.
I live in Oklahoma and am beginning to look for family roots - The
family I am seeking had as the father Sidney CLAVIJO, he was born 1922
in Lousiana and is now deceased. His parents were Jose CLAVIJO and
Severina CARBAJAL. I was very interested when you also mentioned a
Severina !
In looking at this family in the 1920 census for Lousiana, however, it
shows Jose was born Spain, his parents were both born Spain. His wife,
Severina was born Louisiana and both her parents were noted as being
also born in Spain. This was disheartening as I had hoped to find some
links for your family lines.
I have gathered mostly Louisiana records in finding this family, but
some are from other states like Texas and California along with New
Mexico and a few Arizona records.
Here is one from Arizona found at
www.findagrave.com/
Steven Mark CARBAJAL, born Jan 9, 1957 died May 5, 1998. Buried National
Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.
One from New Mexico was gotten at
www.americanwardead.com/
Angel CARBAJAL, Private First Class, US Army with the 158th Infantry
Regiment entered service from New Mexico and died June 8, 1944. Buried
at Manilla American Cemetery in the Philippines. Was awarded the Purple
Heart. Is this Angel the same as the one you mention ?
I also have a short list of CARBAJAL entries in various US censuses I
got from a microfiche at the Latter Day Saints church Family History
Center nearby. There were 2 New Mexico names : Benedicto and M.
Eulogia. Benedicto was in Taos Co, NM in Fernando Precinct in the 1860
Census. M. Eulogia was in the same county, same precinct, same year.
Welcome again to the new List and I hope we have more Listers soon. If
you happen to know of anyone who might be interested in subscribing, you
may certainly mail them this link :

Hi, I signed up to this list, but still have not had any messages. So
why
don't I get it started.
I am interested in corresponding with researchers looking into the Carbajal
and related families (Parra, Ponce, Alarcon, Ortiz, Moreno, Aguirre, Masias,
Baca, etc.) who lived in the San Buenaventura/Galeana/Casas Grandes area of
Chihuahua, Mexico, in the first half of the 19th century especially.
I understand (but am still trying to find better information) that the
families who first settled this area were colonists who left New Mexico
during the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 to settle in the San Buenaventura valley,
and who declined to return to New Mexico in the 1690s with the Spanish
recolonization efforts, despite evident pressure from the Spanish crown.
I have also heard that some of these families, at least, may have been
Converso-Jews, although this is a rather separate story and may be more
connected with the Carbajal family of (I believe) Monterrey which suffered
greatly under the Inquisition.
The names I have are:
Felipe Parra (d. aft. 1838) (son of Manuel Parra and Gertrudis Ponce (birth
dates and places unknown) married Maria del Carmel Carbajal (b. abt. 1800,
d. aft. 1838), the 'hija natural' (illegitemate daughter) of Maria Carbajal.
I have been able to identify the following as children of this couple, but
there may well have been more:
Severiana
Julia del Carmen
Manuela
Julio
Severiana married Mariano Aguirre, and they were my ancestors. One of
Mariano's brothers, Angel Aguirre, was, I believe, married to another
Carbajal woman named Josefa. Josefa's family was:
Jose Manuel Carbajal (b. in Mexico) and Julia Alarcon had the following
children born in the late 1700's early 1800s. I have this family from
Baptismal records.
I have identified these individuals as their children:
Josefa
Juana
Tomas
Maxiana
Clara
