Thanks very much Kitty, I should have known that you would know. The
Emorys aren't one of my lines but when my gg grandfather, William
McGowan (c1814-1854) died, his widow, Rebecca (Davis) McGowan
(c1820-c1870s) married John Emory in 1857, the 2nd marriage for both.

J. G. Carawan married Eliza Emory 4 April 1867 in Hyde Co. NC ,Seth B. Harris ,
JP. If J. G. is Joseph G. then this may be the third marriage as there is a Hyde
Co. marriage of Joseph G. Carrawan to Nancy White on 7 June 1954 and another for
Joseph G. Carrowan, son of Asa Carrowan, to Polly Hall, daughter of Benjamin Hall,
on 22 Feb 1868.
