From what I can see from the census data it appears to be between 1870 and
1880.
Hyde Co. 1870 Census, Lake Landing twp, page 510-373:
Carowan, A. 34 m w farmer . . NC
. . . . Carowan, Mary 34 f w keeps house . . NC
. . . . Carowan, Willie 13 m w . . . NC
. . . . Carowan, Darcus 8 f w . . . NC
. . . . Carowan, James 5 m w . . . NC
. . . . Carowan, Dammon 2 m w . . . NC
1880 Census, Pamlico Co. NC (Township 4) page 303B:
William A. CARAWAN Self M Male W 43 NC Farmer NC NC
Elender CARAWAN Wife M Female W 43 NC Keeps House NC NC
Darcas R. CARAWAN Dau S Female W 18 NC At Home NC NC
James T. CARAWAN Son S Male W 14 NC Works On Farm NC NC
Natta A. D. CARAWAN Dau S Female W 7 NC NC NC
Albin R. CARAWAN Son S Male W 4 NC NC NC
I think in the 1870, Mary = Eleanor (and in 1880, "Elender"), and Dammon =
Drummond. I have no source, but I have Albin Rufus, born 21 Jan 1877, born
in Swan Quarter. If this is correct, you could place it between 1877 and 1880.
If I have my lines crossed, let me know.

Folks,
Does anyone know with any certainty when the William Alpheus Carawan
family moved from Hyde County over to Lowlands in Pamlico County? Any
assistance will be appreciated.
