THOMAS P. MURRAY2 Abt. 1886 in Michigan. He was born June 1858 in Ireland.
Notes for MARY E. KIRWIN:
Mary E. (born in April 1870 in Canada) immigrated in 1875.
Mary was only 5 years old when she migrated in 1875
and should be in the 1880 census. She most likely immigrated with her
parents or other relatives.
Enumeration District 102, page 6 of the 1880 Federal Census for Gratiot
County, Michigan lists John B. Kerwin (age 49), Catherine (age 35), Timothy
(age 13), Mary E. (age 11), Howard (age 8), Thomas (age 7), Bridget E. (age

and most of the children, including Mary E. were born in Canada.
Mary E. (Kerwin) Murray named five of her children after the same names as
Mary E. Kerwin's parents and three siblings in the 1880 census.
Notes for THOMAS P. MURRAY:
Thomas Murray first appears in the 1899/1900 South Bend City Directory.
He is listed as a (stone) mason and resides at 230 Indiana avenue.
Enumeration District 121 Sheet 15A of the 1900 Federal Census for Portage
Township, City of South Bend, St. Joseph County, Indiana show Thomas
Murray (born in June 1858 in Ireland) and his wife Mary E. (born in April
1870 in Canada). Thomas immigrated in 1881.
Given the fact that Thomas was born in 1858, he would have been 26 years
old in 1881, old enough to immigrate by himself. He would have missed the
1880 census.
The 1900 census shows that Thomas and Mary were the parents of 6 children, 5
of whom were still living. The 5 living children are listed as: Catherine
(born in October 1888 in Michigan), John J. (born in December 1889 in
Michigan), Thomas F, (born in September 1891 in Michigan), Charles J.
(born in November 1895 in Illinois), and Timothy (born in March 1898 in
Indiana.)
Marriage Notes for MARY KIRWIN and THOMAS MURRAY:
The 1900 census shows that Thomas and Mary have been married 14 years,
putting their marriage around 1886. Since their first known children are
listed as having been born in Michigan, Thomas and Mary may have been
married in Michigan.
