Subject: C.C. Carawan
Greetings all
I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out these loose Carawans
again, the ones that don't seem to connect to anyone. You'd think I'd
learn by now...even in a semi-modern era these people can be quite
confusing. Since most of you know more about Pamlico County than I do,
particularly Kitty and Claud, I thought I'd put the questions here.
I'm in the process of working on eastern Beaufort County, for an entirely
different line (Waters), and I kept running across a gentleman by the name
of C.C. Carawan in Beaufort County that didn't seem to fit in anywhere. I
managed to figure a couple of things out, but only to a certain extent.
Christopher C. Carawan, born 16 Sep 1886 in Lowland (as per his WWI draft
card), to an unknown Carawan and a Martha E. This unknown Carawan may
have died or left, not sure, but Martha remarried John B. Watson around
1899.

Around 1909, C.C. married a Minnie:

Carawan, Lottie E., Dau W F 1 2/12 single
The Lottie above is Lottie Elmore Carawan; she apparently married Dr.
Marcus Alton Garris from Northampton Co. in 1937; Lottie died in 1967 in
Roanoke Rapids and Mr. Garris died in 1999 also in Roanoke Rapids.
Sometime between 1917-18 (from the Draft Card) and 1920, C.C. moved to
Bath township.

So the questions are:
1) Who was Minnie? I think she's here:

O'Neal, George, Son W M 9 born Aug 1890 single
O'Neal, Brittaney, Dau W F 1 born Mar 1899 single
This is about 5 or 6 houses down from where CC is living in 1900, and the
dates are close but it's hard to tell definitively.
2) Who was Nancy E? My guess is she married after 1880 and her husband
died definately by 1899; Judging by the information in the 1900 census (4
children 4 living), CC was their only child. And most importantly.....
3) Who this Carawan who was Nancy E's husband, and CC's father? And how
does he connect to the big picture? Any clues?
