Kitty:
Just a small(?) item of correction: You state below that CC was
born in 1886 in Pamlico Co and that his father was McDonald Carawan
b. Pamlico Co... My understanding is that Pamlico was formed in
1872 and I would therefore believe that McDonald was born either in
Beaufort or Craven county. You do state further on that McDonald
was b. 1 Feb 1858 which is well before the formation of Pamlico co.
Thanks

Hello,
I have the following for C. C "Kit" Carawan. The Beaufort Co. death
certificate shows Christopher Columbus Carawan was born 19 Sept 1886
Pamlico Co. died 21 Feb 1941 Beaufort Co, Tayloe Hosp. His father was
McDonald Carawan b. Pamlico Co. and mother was Nancy E. Jefferson, b.
Beaufort Co. The informant was Mrs. M. A. Garriss of Weldon, NC(the
daughter-though not stated as such on death certificate).
Pamlico Co., NC Cemeteries, Bk2, p. 73 shows Kit C. Carawan and wife
Minnie O. Carawan 27 Aug 1888-1 July 1977 buried in the Watson Cemetery.
I do not have a marriage date or place for Kit and Minnie O'Neal. Her
name given on Beaufort Co. Birth Certificate of son CCJr. They had 3
children, Lottie Elmore, , Helen Mack, and C. C. Jr.
Nancy E. Carawan (parents unknown) married in Pamlico Co. 31 May 1890
John Burnside Watson, s/o J D and Nancy Watson. They are also buried in
Watson Cemetery. See above source, p. 73. Kit's father McDonald Carawan
b 1 Feb 1858-d. 29 Nov 1887 is buried in Carawan Cemetery, p. 63.
Pamlico Co. Guardian Account dated 2 Mar 1908 and signed by John B.
Watson "desires said guardian Christopher Carawan be released having
become 21 years old."
Mc. D. Carawan s/o Daniel Carawan, dead, and Mary, living , married in
Pamlico Co. 8 Feb 1877 Sallie Hopkins, d/o E. B. and Ann Hopkins, both
living. Evidently this was the first marriage. McD. Carawan then married
in Beaufort Co. 3 Feb 1884 Nancy E. Jefferson. McDonald was s/o Daniel
Carawan abt 1827-abt 1877 and Mary J.(likely Ives) Daniel was brother of
Benjamin Carawan that married Delilah White.
Corrections and additions welcomed.
