William Fillmore Carawan married Annie Mae Neal .. That's the F ... But I
see below that I gave the F to the wrong William ... Sorry!
Since this is not my direct line I have not searched census records etc ...
But I can tell you that it was information gleaned from Yvonne Evans -
DeRuiz in 1998. I believe Yvonne is descended of Betty Mae Carawan who was
the daughter of the above mentioned Wm F and Annie Mae. Betty Scoopmire
also provides William's middle name as Filmore. But with one L. And it was
Yvonne who provided the information to me in emails from 1998 that it was
believed that Phillip Benjamin Carawan's parents were a William Carawan and
Eunice Benson.
I believe John McGowan may have some connection to this line and may be able
to shed additional light?

Betty and Christina and whomever else it may concern, concerning the origins
of Philip Benjamin Carawan:
It has always been my opinion that Philip as the son of William Carawan and
Eunice Benson was the scenario that made the most sense, but I have never
been able to prove it. For the record I have Eunice Benson as the wife of
William (II) Carawan (born 1785/95 d. about 1847)....William as son of John
(II) Carawan (b. abt 1739 d. abt 1791 in Hyde) and Frances ?? (born abt
1739 d. abt 2 Mar 1808)...and John as son of John (I) Carawan who died about
1771 at Gull Rock in Hyde Co.
Concerning William Carawan and Eunice/Unis Benson, most of my information on
the dates comes from Barbara Radcliff and her family, she being a
ggggrandfather of William and Eunice. If Philip is indeed the son of
William and Eunice, he would be a brother of George D. Carawan (1821-91).
If William died in 1847, he would not be on the 1850 census, but according
to my info from Barbara, Eunice died about 1862, and I have not been able to
find her on the 1850 or 1860 census or Philip on the 1850 census anywhere.
Philip first appears in 1860 married to Martha Giles, having already been
married to Ann Mariah Carawan. Ann Mariah I suspect to be the daughter of
Benjamin Carawan and Delilah White, or possibly the daughter of Zion Carawan
and Hannah ??
One more question...where does the "F" initial for William Carawan's middle
name come from.
Please give me some sources...I will research this further...I've been
looking for Philip's parentage for a long time.

Dear Betty,
Thank you.
Let me see if I can shed a tad bit of light.
Phillip Benjamin Carawan son of William F Carawan AND Eunice Benson
Eunice Benson daughter of Reuben Benson and Dorcas Carawan Dorcas
daughter of William Carawan and Amy Green and sister of Mannen Marion
Carawan Mannen is father of Benajah Carawan Benajah is father of Milton
Now this is the data according to my current family tree maker data ...
If you have any questions regarding my source of info -- please ask. I
usually am pretty good about documenting what I have .. There gets to
be some confusion sometimes about Whether Mannen is Benajah's son or
someone else's but I believe the consensus here was indeed Benajah if I am
not
mistaken ...
Our cousins here will help guide you and I both if my understanding is
incorrect.
Sorry it's taken so long to reply.
God bless,
