Tom: So glad to hear from you. Yes I definitely
remember Catherine and she dearly loved Uncle Hobart
and I do know he taught her the curse words.
Uncle Hobart's widow is 87 and is preparing to move
into her daughter, Belinda's house, Johnnie, Uncle
Hobart's son died three years ago from colon cancer.
Yes I do have a sister named Pam and my brother's name
was Michael.
My dad died this past January 2006 and mom died in
October 1992.
I think about Edna and Jimmy and Uncle Thaxton's
family all the time. I loved to visit them. If they
have any kind of e-mail, please give them my e-mail
address or give me theirs so I can talk to them.
Keep in touch

I am on the phone with my parents. They remember
your parents and you as
well. You have a sister named Pam. Your uncle,
Hobart, a Coast Guard
veteran, loved my Aunt Catherine, paid a great deal
of attention to her,
teased her a lot, and taught her how to cuss.
Catherine was mentally and
physically disabled as you may recall. As her she
approached death, she
used what Hobart taught her quite well!
My mother and father still live in Norfolk. His
brother Jack and his wife,
Ruth, just moved to Goldsboro, NC, to live with
their daughter, Claudia.
Their other daughter, Jackie, lives a few miles east
in Clayton. The oldest
sister, Doris, died last year, not long after she,
Edna and Jimmy had moved
to McKinney, TX, to live with Edna's daughter,
Maureen. Edna and Jimmy
would rather be in Norfolk but there was no one
there who could take care of
them.
I have been living here for a little less than three
years now after having
lived away from the East Coast since 1973. I've
lived in Columbus, OH,
Indianapolis, and Minneapolis/St. Paul before
setting roots here. My next
move will be assisted living or six feet under.
I received an E-mail a few moments ago from Ellen
Singler who started all
this flurry of E-mails with her question regarding
Uncle Johnie. My father
had not remembered that he was in the service, but
Ellen said she found a
military registration card for him from September
1918.
Take care,
Tom

My great aunt-Minnie Carawan Pollard died in
December
1993. She would have be 104 in January 2004 because
she was born in 1890. Your grandfather Thaxton
Carawan was my grandmother's, Lorena Carawan
Sadler's
brother and of course, Aunt Minnie was their sister.
I well remember Uncle Thaxton and Aunt Rena and it
was
a great pleasure to visit them with my mom and dad,
Nora and Ashley Hopkins.
