Thanks Kitty for verifying my resent e mail.
I had never published my opinion regarding the first use of the name
CARAWAN on an official document, but I thought that it was used on an
advertisement that there was to be a sale of the personalty of John Green
Carawan who had recently deceased in about 1868. Your statement presses the
use of CARAWAN on an official document back 9 years. Does anyone out there
think that they have seen an official document issued prior to 1859 that had
the name CARAWAN in it.

Art,
Regarding Asa: I do not have parents of Asa. The only child I have
documented for
Asa is Joseph G.Carawan with 3 different wives There are 3 Hyde Co.
marriage
records that I beleive to be for him. Joseph G. Carrawan married
Nancy
White on 7
June 1854. J. G. Carawan married Eliza Emory 4 April 1867. Neither of
these gives
names of parents and J.G. might not be same person. Joseph G.
Carrowan,
s/o Asa,
married Polly Hall, d/o Benjamin Hall, on 22 Feb 1868. Anyone please
correct me here
if you disagree.
The children that you have listed above for Benjamin Carawan and Delilah
White
agree
with what information I have. In addition I have Frances listed as
Sally
Frances.
For George Marcus I only have Marcus. Even though I have seen many
family
researchers with the name George Marcus, I have never found it documented
so in
my
files he is Marcus. He had a grandson George Marcus 1909-1924 s/o
Daniel
who along
with his 1st cousin, Bernie Ireland , s/o ET Ireland and Julie
Carawan,
1912- 1924,
another grandson drowned. Both buried Mercer Cem, Lowland, NC. See
Pamlico
Cem. Bk
2, p. 66.
Regarding George Washington Carrawan: I agree with CW. In the Hyde Co.
Estates in
Archives there is a Hyde Co Feb 7, 1859 Petition for dower. John
Cahoon
and Mary,
his wife, vs The heirs at law of Geo W. Carrowan. In it is stated that
there are 3
heirs who are minors: William R., John L. and George W. Mary, wife of
John
Cahoon,
was widow of George W. Carrowan. All 3 minors signed their names along
with
Benjamin
Bonner as guardian. It is interesting that George W. signed Carowan,
John
L. signed
as Carwan, and William R. signed as Wm. R.Carawan.
Regards,
Kitty
