Folks,
Below is an exchange of information between Kitty Humphries and myself.
Of course, most of the information is from Kitty. Hopefully some of
this somewhere will help someone.
John (I'm my own cousin)

Kitty,
Info on James Green Carawan:
James Green Carawan (1840-1875) and William Alpheus Carawan (1837-1913)
were sons of Mannan Carawan (c.1792-c.1851) and his 2nd wife Rebecca
(McGowan) Carawan (c.1803-c.1850's). [Rebecca was a sister of my gg
grandfather, William McGowan (c.1814-c.1854].
James Green Carawan (29 June, 1840 - 27 Jan., 1875) married c.1873 to
Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Chadwick (6 Mar., 1851 - 4 Mar., 1918), daughter
of Southey F. Chadwick & Ellen Thomas (25 Dec., 1832 - 11 Apr., 1907).
(Ellen mar. 2nd to Sylvester McGowan (c.1818-c.1900) [James Green's 1st
cousin].
Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Chadwick) Carawan married 2nd to Lewis Tull
Williamson (20 Aug., 1851 - 8 Mar., 1932) on 2 Jan., 1879 and they had 7
children. [Lewis Tull was brother of Martha A. Williamson, wife of
William H. McGowan, another 1st cousin of James Green Carawan.] [Lewis
Tull Williamson was a son of Tully Williamson (1821-1869) and Sarah Ann
Eastwood; Tully was a son of Avory Williamson and Mary Carawan, daughter
of William (d.c.1804) and Amy (Green) Carawan.]
James Green & Lizzie (Chadwick) Carawan were parents of:
Annah Green "Greenie" Carawan (c.1875- ? ) and one unknown son (must
have died young).
Greenie Carrawan married 1st to Robinson L. "Babe" Ireland
(c.1876-c.1928) of Craven County. They had two daughters: Eula & Nola.
Babe Ireland was killed in an auto accident in 1928 in New Bern, NC.
Greenie (Carawan) Ireland married 2nd to Ulysses Grant Carawan of New
Bern on Dec. 6, 1929. He died in 1930 in Pamlico County. [Ulysses
married 1st to Martha A. Swindell Feb 7, 1906 in Pamlico County, d/o
Isaac & Mary Ann (__?__) Swindell.] It is unknown at this time if
Ulysses and Greenie had any children. It is also unknown if Greenie
married a 3rd time.

Well, I think I found out a little more about "Greenie".
From the Craven Co. Marriage Register, Vol. 8&9 Microfilm Roll
C.028.63002 at the State Archives, Ulysses Grant Carawan of New Bern
married Annie Green Ireland of New Bern on Dec. 6, 1929. Since this
was an index I don't have the parents names, but it almost has to be
her.
1930 Pamlico Co. Death Certificate for Ulysses G. Carrawan lists his
wife as Mrs. Greenie Carawan. So, Ulysses had married first Martha A.
Swindell Feb 7, 1906 in Pamlico Co., d/o Isaac Swindell & Mary Ann
(___?___).
Martha was 8 on the 1900 Goose Creek census. Can't find a burial
site for either wife. Maybe Greenie "married" a third time? What
happened to first wife?

John
Pamlico Co. death certificate of Ulysses Grant Carawan (d.1 Oct.
1930) states his parents were Phillip M. Carawan and Caroline
Silverthorn. Hyde marriage certificate states they married in
Hyde 14 Feb 1877.
Craven Co. death certificate for Caroline (Silverthorn) Carawan
(d.Dec 25, 1928) states her parents were James Silverthorn and
Comfort Sadler.
Parents of Phillip were George D. and Ella Carawan. Craven Co.
Death Certificate for Phillip Carawan (d.2 Feb 1931) of New Bern
lists his parents as G. W. Carawan and Ella Harris.
George D. Carawan Hyde Estate Application for letters of
Administration dated 10 Novenber 1891 lists his heirs:
D. M. Carawan, George W. Carawan, Phillip M. Carawan, B.J. Carawan,
Elsie E. Carawan and Sabra A Carawan.
More to follow about George D. Carawan.

According to Williamson Book p. 112 George D. Carawan was
married to Eleanor Harris.
Hyde Co. marriage certificates for:
George W. Carawan & Mary Williamson: 4 April 1877,
Phillip M.Carawan & Caroline Silverthorn: 14 Feb 1877,
D. M. Carawan & Ann E. Hudson: 6 March 1870,
Elsey Carawan and Riley B. Carawan: 26 Jan 1876,
(parents were Geo. D./ G.D. and Ellie/Ella Carawan).
I seem to recall discussion about Ann E. being a Stotesberry.
This copy of the marriage certificate states D.M. and Ann E.
married by Albert Cartwright, Baptist Minister at (illegible)
Swindells and her parents were Sheldon and Matilda Hudson. I
copied from original Hyde Marriage Register, 1868-1873, p. 48,
at the archives D. M. Carawan, s/o G. D. Carawan & Ellie
Carawan, and Ann E. Hudson, d/o Sheldon Hudson and Matilda
Carawan married 6 Mar 1870 at Leroy Swindells in Hyde Co. by
Albert Cartwright, Baptist Minister.
I do not have a copy of a Hyde marriage certificate for a George
D. Carawan & an Eleanor/Ella/Ellie Harris (nor do I have it the
Hyde Marriage Index) or one for Geroge D. and Sabry Ann.Voliva
(however this one is listed in the Hyde Marriage Index: 3 Dec
1884). According to the Hyde marriage certificate of Geroge D.
Carawan, s/o William Carawan, Sen. and Mrs. Sally Giles, d/o
John Berry, Sen. they were married 6 Feb. 1868 by Reuben Benson.
Now, Which William Sen. is the above?
