My focus of attention is Kirvan which may be a variation of the Carawan
name. The Kirvans in which I am interested lived in Michigan and arrived
from Ontario and Galway, Ireland. Is anyone familiar with this line?

Subject: Re: Anyone hear of a Phillip Carawan?
Claud
I am finding it increasingly likely that Phillip moved into and out of
Hyde, even though the information I have states he was born and died
there. As far as "Ann Marie" (I have Mariah) goes: William Benjamin
Carawan (1784-1839) had a daughter named Ann abt. 1837. Benjamin also had
a son named Christopher (30 May 1820-7 Jan 1873), and from someone else's
information I have found that Christopher had a daughter named Anna Mariah
abt 1848.
Christopher's daughter would have been about seven years old when Phillip
Benjamin married Ann, so that possibility is out. It's quite possible
that
Phillip's first wife was William Benjamin's daughter
however...she would
have been about eighteen at the time. Phillip himself would have been
about twenty-four.
None of this, of course, tells me anything about where Phillip came from,
or his ancestors, but every little bit helps. Here's another
question: where in the world did Martha Giles come from? I have not
found
Giles to be a common surname in Hyde County; I would think it to be
more
Virginian. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
