Julia Carawan married to a William L. Voliva. Pamlico Co. marriages
show 2 marriages for William L(Layfette) Voliva, s/o of Abel and Susan
Voliva. The first to Nancy J. Carawan, d/o Benajah and Nancy Carawan on
26 Feb 1882 at residence of Benajah Carawan. Pamlico Co. Cemetery Bk 2,
p. 75 shows Nancy J. Voliva, d/o B & N E Carawan 26 Apr 1860-16 Feb 1883
buried in McGowen Cemetery.
The second marriage of W. L. Voliva was to Frances Carawan d/o
Christopher and Patsy A. Carawan on 30 Jan 1886 by Jesse Daniels, JP at
Goose Creek Island. Pamlico Co. Cemetery Bk 2, p. 68 shows Julia F.
Voliva 5 Jan 1866-4 Dec 1939 and W. L. Voliva 4 Mar 1851-6 Mar 1924
buried in Hopkins-Voliva Cemetery in field behind Whitfield homeplace.
Julia F. Carawan b Jan 5, 1866 is listed as a child of Christopher
Carawan and Patsy A. Watson in secondary proof of marriage of
Christopher and Patsy A found in Christopher Carawan 's military papers
in National Archives.
According to Pamlico Co. marriage record, Julia Watson Carawan d/o
Marcus Carawan and Mate Alcock married Earl Ireland, s/o R.L. and Magie
Ireland on 21 Mar 1897 at home of Marcus Carawan No 4 Twsp. Julia
Ireland w/o E. T. 12 Apr 1872-20 Mar 1950 buried Mercer Cemetery in
Wardens Grove FWB church yard. Also buried there is E. T. Ireland 17 Dec
1872-25 Sept 1933. See Pamlico Co. Cemetery Bk 2, p. 65. The obit of
Earl Ireland appeared in New Bern Tribune on Oct 3, 1933--microfilm in
New Bern Library. See my earlier post. Don't know if Bernards Chapel
later became Wardens Grove.
Do you recall where you found the Mary Julia Carawan-William L Voliva
marriage info? I'd like to make corrections if my info is incorrect.

Benjamin C. Carawan & Delilah White had a son Marcus Carawan b. 1830,
married Marietta Alcock on 12/2/1852 in Beaufort Co NC.
Children of Marcus & Marietta: Ira, George Wallace, Daniel R., Gertrude
(married a Wynn), Delilah (b. 1/29/1880 d. 9/12/1956 in St. Luke's, New Bern NC,
married Joseph S. Leary), and Elizabeth, Mary Julia (b. 1/5/1860, married
William L. Voliva on 2/26/1882) & Effie who married Guinn.
My gggrandfather was John Green Carawan s/o John Carawan IV & Mary. John
Green Carawan married Hannah and they had a daughter Nancy who married Edward
Rose. If you have any information, I would appreciate it if you would email
me.
If the above information regarding Marcus Carawan and Delilah are not
correct, let me know.
