Mary ( very likely Mary Bell Carawan Cahoon) widow, age 55 are listed as one family.
George was listed as a farmer with $1,500. Real Estate and $400 personalty,.
In the 1880 Census, George Carawan, age 34, his wife Darcas, age 28, a daughter, Mary E.,
age 6, a daughter Minnie D., age 4, Mary E. age 66, Darcass Potter, age 13, a name not
legible, age 10, and Carmine Bridgman age 45 are listed as a family. George is registered
as a Sailer. All the above families resided in Swan Quarter.
Darcas Potter of Lowland (then Beaufort Co.) was apprenticed to Mrs. Darcas Mason
Carawan.-from other records.
Darcas Mason, and Lidia -the first Mrs. George Carawan- were sisters and daughters of
Dorset Mason.
George Carawan and Dorcas Mason were married in Lowland 1/8/1873.
Dorcas Mason Carawan, widow, age 33, and John B Porter were married in Hyde Co.
8/26/1886.
Dorcas died sometime after the 1910 census. She bore many children only one. Leo Porter,
survived.
