Hi Art
Thank you for your reply.
I have a marriage license for Nancy CARAWON & Edward ROSE. The marriage
license is handwritten and was obtained from the courthouse in Swan Quarter.
They were married 9/7/1874 when Edward of Hyde Co was 22 yrs old and Nancy
of Hyde was 19 yrs old. Edward's parents are Edward & Nelly, both dead,
residents of Hyde Co. Nancy's parents are listed as Zion Carawon (dead) &
Hannah living in Lake Landing Township, Hyde Co. B. G. Credle, registrar.
There are three witness: Henry Bridgman, James Gibbs & Richard Sadler.
Edward & Nancy are married by a Baptist minister, Albert Cartwright. The
marriage could have taken place at the home of Hannah.
Nancy has a brother, Richard Benjamin Carrawan b. 5/13/1842, d. 3/19/1918.
He was married to Susan Jane Midyette In Hyde Co. My grandmother, Tina Rose
NIXON is listed in the Hyde Co census as living with them when she is abt 10
years old.
Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth and Claud
Glad to see this list making some noise!
Concerning Zion, I haven't found his name listed as such anywhere, but
others apparently have. Is this the family in question?

William 16 laborer
I have a death date of about Nov 1868 in Lake Landing for Green/Zion, but
I'm not sure where it came from.
1870 Census, Lake Landing twp, page 483-14 is a strong suspect.
Carrion, Hanah 46 f w keeps house . . NC
. . . . . Carrion, Mary 18 f w . . . NC
. . . . .Carrion, Nancy 15 f w . . . NC
The ages in this last census are all askew, but I can't seem to find
another Hannah in here that closely resembles a match.
Children: William J. and Ann M.'s fate unknown. R.B. = Richard Benjamin,
married Susannah Midyette. David G. = David Green, married Matilda
Briggs. Mary = Mary Elizabeth, married James W. Gibbs. Nancy married
Edward Rose.
Because of all the "Green"'s involved here, I have always suspected that
Green/Zion was the son of Elder Green Carrowon (brother of Elder George
W.), and indeed there is a Green listed in Elder Green's will:
Beaufort County, NC Will Abstracts 1720-1868, compiled by Beaufort Co.
Gen Soc., 1990, p. 66 & 67 Green Carrowon Original. Date 16 Oct. 1831,
Probate Aug Term 1832, oath Henry Carrow, Jr. Wife unnamed, dower use of
plantation to maintain her father and mother during their lives. Son
Green,
land beginning at Henry Everits Northwest corner. Son William,
table;
sheep. Daughter Lydia, land beginning at NE corner of Henry Everits rich
land patent. Daughter Elizabeth, land joining Lydia. Daughter Dorcas, land
joining Elizabeth.....head oyster creek. Daughter Sarah Spain, land
joining
Dorcas Macgound's land. Three sons Henry, Jordan, and Thomas,
50A
apiece.....middle bay. Daughter Polly, land beginning at son Green's
corner...... Daughters Agnes, Siddy, Nancy, and child wife is now with,
land.....goose creek....water of Oyster Creek....landing Creek. Son
Richard, land and plantation that I have given my wife as a dower. Land in
Hyde County near the turn pike to be sold; also to sell land on doble
ditch
joining Daves? ridge. Executors Father Henry Carrow and lodwick
Redit.
Signed. Witnesses Henry Carrow Junior and Mary S. Carrow. Remarks also
recorded Orphan Book B, pp. 185-6.
The implication is that Green is the eldest child here, being listed
first,
which fits with Green/Zion's supposed birthdate of about 1798
from the
census data, but my suspicion that they are the same man has not, to my
knowledge, been proven.
Any input from you folks?
