For anyone descended from Philip Caraker b. 1726 in Germany and m.
Catherina Eisenman, moved to Concord, Carrabus Co. NC about 1780/1785, I have
information on the location of the old homeplace in Carrabus Co. Philip
migrated to NC with three sons Andrew, George and Philip Jr. All but Philip
Jr., received land grants---In 1789 Philip Sr. rec'd 350 acres, but sold 175
acres to Philip Jr.,---George rec'd 200 acres on Plum Run in 1787---Andrew
rec'd 350 acres in1780 and 1784. Plum Run was a stream that ran into Dutch
Buffalo Creek, a tributary of Rocky River. Since George was a miller the
Plum Run stream was useful to run his mill. These land grants were in what
was then Mecklinburg Co., NC.
The land ( Philip's land) and house was still standing five years ago,
however in poor condition. To get to the land---go hwy 601 to Miami Church
Rd.---travel Miami Ch. Rd. to Hamby Branch Rd. pass Green Oak Golf Club---and
it is the property where the road dead ends. The church and cemeteries of
the Carakers are located nearby and I'll post more on that later but I
welcome queries now. Hope this helps anyone in the area or is planning a
trip to NC.
