From what I have been able to learn, it appears that it originated in

around the Black Forest area of Germany, and roughly translated, means
Carter! (The original spelling would have been Karcher with an umlaut on
the "a")....
And, there are more variations of it today than you can possibly
imagine!!!
1) It can start with a C or K
2) It can be 2 or 3 syllables
3) The first "r" sound can be 1 or 2 r's
4) The "K" sound can be a ch, ck, or k (or???)
5) The next vowel can be an a, e, or i!
Add it all up and it comes to about 40 variations!!!
