Carolyn,
Thanks for responding. Very interesting reading.
I remember all my life my grandmother Lexia B. Character (as they had
evolved by the time she was born, 1901) saying that they were Welsh. Of
course that could be from her mothers side. Wish I had inquired more
while she was living. I did however have her make a tape of as much as
she could remember (at the age of 81).
Yes I would be interested in having anything you are willing to share.
Especially information relating to censuses, and other records
establishing their existence.
Once again, thanks for responding. I am sure Lajuana will be very
excited over your response also.

Hello to the new Carakers and other spellings,
I have been on this list for a while. It has never really got off the ground. I
sure am happy
to see the
new activity. My maiden name was Karraker. My ancestor was Daniel but not the
one
you are looking for. I do think that I know the connection though. I can't
find my Caraker,
Karraker book right now. The originals Carakers were Karchers. They couldn't
write their
German name into English. They came to US to Penn. and then went to North
Carolina.
We go back to Phillip. Phillip had children Andrew, George, Phillip, and Paul.
Andrew was
born 1755 ( he is my ancestor) George was born 1752 ( I think he is your
ancestor)
Andrews sons Daniel and Jacob went to Illinois in 1818. George stayed in North
Carolina
and later went to Georgia and Alabama. When Daniel and Jacob went to Illinois
they
decided to have one change his name to Karraker (Daniel) and the other became
Caraker.
They did this to keep track of which family they were from since they named
their children
same names and lived close to each other. I put this on here because I thought
new
people might be interested. I would be happy to share anything that I have on "
Caraker" name.
