Lajuana,
I went to Salt Lake FHC while on business trip last year and went
throughout all their Census Indexes for AL while I could. Made copies
of everything I could relate to my surnames. The first I found of
Daniel Caractor was 1860. I think we will have to move over to GA. i
mentioned that in 1860 he was in Randolph Co., AL. This could just be
right after their move to AL. Perhaps GA or maybe SC.
Would sure like to spend a couple months there. Took my of my time just
to learn how to get around. She sure got the records.
You would think the folks that started this list would also be looking
for Daniel. Oh well.
I have been spending an awful lot of time looking for the elusive
BUSBEE's.
Thanks for the response.

Hi Julius,
Gee, I was hoping you would have all kinds of info by now on Daniel. He sure
is a difficult one to follow. Makes me tired just trying to check all the
various spellings!
Here is what I have so far,
1880 Census he is living in Lineville, Clay Co. AL (pg 132 lines 22 & 23)
with his daughter Margaret Sue and her husband, Aaron Dewberry. Daniel is 94
years old, wife, Gemima is 96; both born in Georgia, does not indicate where
parents were born. Spelling is CARECTOR.
1870 Census he is living in Lineville, Clay Co. AL (pg 296, lines 15-19) as
head of household, age 76, with wife Jemima, age 78. However, this one
indicates that Daniel was born in North Carolina and Jemima in South
Carolina. Living with them are Wilson L. age 13, William W. age 11 and Sarah
G. (I think) , age 9. All children born in Alabama Spelling is CHARACTER
1860 Census he is living in New Site, Tallapoosa Co, AL (pg 331) as head of
household, two doors down from Dewberrys. Tallapoosa Co. if I remember
correctly is also where Aaron Dewberry and Margaret Sue Karaker married.
Daniel is shown here as 63 years old, born in North Carolina and wife Miama
is 64 years old, born in South Carolina. Living with them are Louisa, age 20
born in Georgia and Giles, age 17 also born in Georgia. Spelling is CHARAKER.
with this we have children's names of
Margaret Sue, b. abt 1840 - GA
Louisa , b. abt 1841 - GA
Giles, b. abt 1843 - GA
Wilson Lafayette, b.Jan. 9, 1852 - Alabama
William W. b. abt 1859 - AL
Sarah G., b. abt 1861 - AL
The 1850 Census may indicate more children older than Margaret Sue. What
about Daniel and Jemima's ages. Note in 1860 they were 63 and 64.......1870
they are 76 and 78 and .......1880 they really aged to 96 and 94. I think
the earlier census are more accurate. At any rate they were born before 1800,
probably married around 1820-1825 but no children until 1840? In those days
that doesn't sound right. The 1850 census I think is going to help alot.
Guess we are going to have to look at the 1850 census to learn more. Maybe I
can get to the library this week if I don't have to babysit grandchildren.
One thing for sure, Daniel was certainly a CHARACTER with so many spellings!
:>) Let's keep digging. Haven't seen much on this mailing list but maybe
posting our info will spark something!
