Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hello to the new list,
It is so nice to have a Caraker/Karraker list. There are many
spellings of this name. In Union Co. Illinois these are the two
main spelllings. I thought it may be interesting to know why they
think this is true. Our ancestors came from N.C. in 1818 to
Illinois. Two brothers were among the people that came. One
was named Jacob Karraker and the other Daniel. They both
settled in Union Co. They both had families and named children
same names. People believe to keep families straight one brother,
(Jacob) spelled his name with " C" and the othe (Daniel) spelled
his with "K"
This fact really helps us geneologists. If you spell your name with
C you are off of Jacob and if you spell it with K, you are off of
Daniel. I am off of Daniel.
I will help any one that needs help on their Caraker or other
line from Union Co. I live close to this county.
I am looking forward to talking and sharing information.

Carolyn, so far just 3 on the list including me. This was great info. Hope
you'll repost this in the next few days when more have subscribed. I sent
out lots of invitations to Caraker/Karrakers, etc. researchers taken from
the Rootsweb's RSL site and perhaps today or tomorrow, we'll be getting some
new subscribers from those. By tomorrow, we should be getting more of the
Union Co researchers, especially those who take the digest form of mail.
Also, it should come out in the week or so on Rootsweb's mailing list
website which always brings in more researchers.
How far back can you go past Union Co on your ancestors. If you know of a
county in another state that they might have come from, let me know and I'll
go to that mailing list if they have one and advertise the list there.
Sometimes you can pick up subscribers that way.
I'll keep plugging and if you can think of any other approach, let me know.
Glenda
