Olin C. Capwell, 69
Olin C. Capwell, 69, of Taylor Road, Bear Lake, ended his journey on Saturday, March 8,
2008, at his home.
He was born in Corry on March 11, 1938, a son of the late Clare L. and Helen L. Mead
Capwell.
Mr. Capwell was raised and educated in Corry where he graduated from Corry Area High
School. He then graduated from the National Institute of Dry Cleaning in Silver Springs,
Md. After graduation, he worked for Mary MacIntosh Dry Cleaners in Sunbury.
Following the completion of his military obligation in the Army, he returned to Corry to
work with his father, Clare, at Superior Dry Cleaners. In 1965, he opened Capwell's
Clothing Care Center in Erie and in 1984 the business was merged with Frank's Cleaners
in Erie. He retired in 2000.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Corry. He also belonged to the BPO
Elks in Sunbury, Erie and Corry, was the founder and chairman from 1988 to 2007 of the
Northwest PA Chapter of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, a Habitat Partner and life
member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.
He served on the board of directors of Northwest Savings Bank (formerly Corry Savings and
Loan) for many years. He also was a member of the Masonic Order Blue Lodge 365 in Corry
and became a 32nd Degree Mason at Consistory at Coudersport.
Mr. Capwell was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing, gardening, landscaping, collecting and
refinishing antiques. He also spent many hours in his workshop and enjoyed decorating his
home with wildlife prints and mounts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Marie Capwell,
at birth; by a sister, Jeanette Capwell Beach, in 1998; and by a brother, Robert Capwell,
at birth.
Mr. Capwell is survived by his wife, Frances Rusiackas Capwell, whom he married on Dec.
26, 1960, in Pottsville; by two sons, David Capwell and his partner, Dawn Kelley, of
Rifle, Colo., and Robert Capwell and his wife, Amy, of Pittsburgh; by a sister, Mary
Capwell Comfort, and her husband, Guy, of Bristol, R.I.
Also surviving are two grandsons, Kahlin and Cody of Colorado and by three nieces and one
nephew.
Friends will be received at the First Presbyterian Church, 607 W. Smith St., Corry, on
Thursday from 5 p.m. until the time of a memorial service there at 6 p.m. with Rev. Karen
Anderson, pastor of the church, officiating.
Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery in Columbus at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Corry Regional Hospice, 612 W. Smith St.,
Corry, Pa. 16407, to Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, 5705, Grant Creek Road, Missoula,
Mont., 59808, or to the First Presbyterian Church, 607 W. Smith St., Corry, Pa. 16407.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N. Center
St., Corry.
