Hello Tim,
I have now been to look at the Clapham parish register and can confirm the
information you obtained from the IGI as -
Baptisms:
21st November 1800 - Robert son of Richard Capstack (not spelling) of
Clapham - carpenter
I searched the marriages from 1817 to 1825 but found nothing.
However, I did find the marriage of his parents Richard & Magdalen -
22nd February 1800
Banns of Richard Capstack and Magdalen Stockdale were published on the
2nd,
9th, and 16th February 1800 by me Thos. King, Curate. The said
Richard
Capstack of the parish of Slaidburn in the diocese of York, carpenter and
the said Magdalen Stockdale of this parish, spinster married in this
Church
by Banns this 22nd day of February in the year One Thousand Eight
Hundred
by
me Thos. King, Curate.
This marriage was solemnised by us (signed) Richard Capstack
Magdalen Stockdale
in the presence of Francis Nicholson/Rbt. Stackhouse.
When I saw that Richard came from Slaidburn I looked in the Slaidburn
parish
register (1600 - 1837/52) which is in printed form and also indexed.
There
was not one mention of Capstick/Capstack so it looks like Richard was
born
elsewhere and only living there at the time of marriage. I must say I
didn't look any further back in Clapham than 1800 after I saw he was from
Slaidburn.
While I was searching I made a note of all the Capstacks/Capsticks that I
found so I hope you find these helpful -

17th April 1825 - Mary daughter of Christopher & Agnes Capstack -

Burials - Clapham

27th December 1834 - Elizabeth Capstack - Austwick - 25 years
22nd February 1835 - James Capstack - Clapham - 58 years
1st December 1835 - Margaret daughter of Thomas Capstack - 1 year
19th August 1838 - James Capstick - Clapham - infant
7th September 1839 - Margt. Capstick - infant

17th November 1846 - John Capstick - Auswick - infant
4th December 1858 - Charles Capstick - Clapham - 39 years
The records I searched were -
Baptisms from 1800 back to 1783
Burials - 1800 back to 1865
Marriages - 1817 - 1825
I hope this helps. I you require any more information please do get in

Kind regards
Marian.
