years but was born and raised in BSL,Nova Scotia A Very Strong connection in
Northeren Nova Scotia between the whitty's Donovans and Capsticks. I will
check with some relatives up there and find out who has info on our
ancestors the in Cape Breton. I have been in contact with a gentleman in
Australia who had a great family tree done for the capsticks in Nova Scotia,
I will see if I can contact him also.

Subject: [CAPSTICK] A Capstick Query
Hello;
Bill C. here from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I have the following query which might be of interest to those researching
the "Capsticks" in Liverpool, England.
I have a Thomas Capstick, who according to the certificate of death for his
daughter Elizabeth who died in Bath, Maine,USA was born in Liverpool. This
Thomas came to Nova Scotia as a young man where he met and married a
Catherine MacLean. They lived in Bay St. Lawrence(BSL), Victoria Co., Nova
Scotia. According to the same certificate of death, Catherine was born in
Glasgow, Scotland. Thomas and family are listed in the 1861 census for BSL.
It states that Thomas is 40 to 50 years of age, that is, he was born between
1811 and 1820. Also living in BSL at the same time was a William Capstick
who is my great, great grandfather. William was born about 1809. We believe
William and Thomas were brothers and may be sons of William Capstick and
Anne Whitty/Witty who were married at St. George's Anglican Church in
Sydney, Nova Scotia about 1807. Family rumor has it that this William may
have been in the Royal Navy which might explain his presence in Nova Scotia
at that time. While there he married Anne and their first child William was
born there in 1809. He may have been returned to England(Liverpool) where
Thomas was born. Thomas's last child was born about 1863 and in the 1871
census for BSL his wife Catherine is listed as a widow. What happened to
Thomas we do not know.
We are most anxious in making a positive conclusive connection with
"Capsticks" in England and are equally as anxious in making a connection
with anyone researching the "Capstick" name particularly in Liverpool.
I look forward to hearing from anyone with "Capstick" information and wish
all a very joyous and prosperous 2003.
Regards,
Bill C.
