Hi Bill
This gets more interesting, I notice in your note to John Reed ( Hi John) who shares his
3rd great grandparents with me, that your William's son Thomas may have been born in
Liverpool which is my birthplace, I now live 20 miles east of the city in Lancashire.
Quite a few of our Capsticks moved to Liverpool, mid 19th century, possibly because the
earlier ones took cattle to the port to victual the ships sailing to North America
I'll have a look at the GRO index for a birth reg for Thomas, if he was born there,
it's possible his father was living or just staying on a temorary basis with one of
his Capstick cousins

Hi Margaret;
Again, thanks for your note.
You could be quite correct in surmising the reason why Edward Alfred came to Nova Scotia
although they actually settled at opposite ends of the province. Travel in those was by
water and would not have taken them long to cover the distance. By the listing of Edmond
Capstick's family my William might have been a brother to Francis Capstick which would
make William an uncle to Edward Alfred.
Also, Joseph Capstick is my cousin and we have worked intermittently on this for several
years. I try not to get too many people involved at any one time because it has a tendency
to get confusing and information starts to overlap sometimes resulting in
misunderstandings. However, we do share information.
I was of the impression that you may have lived in Australia and in giving second though
to that I realized that may have been in error. So, if I might ask, where do you live?
I look forward to receiving your updated file.
Regards,
Bill Cook

Hi Bill
I still have the msn email address but don't use it often
It's possible that this William is one and the same, I don't have any other
details about him. This may be why Edward Alfred Capstick went to Nova Scotia ( because
he had relatives living there)
I'll update the FT and send you a copy
Best wishes
Margaret
ps have you seen the other message from Joseph Capstick, he is researching the same
William as you

Hello Margaret;
Thanks for your notes and it a pleasure to hear from you again. I was sorry to hear
about Bob and his heart operation but hope he is now doing well.
I was asking about William Capstick, son of Edmond Capstick and Mary Guy, because I have
a William Capstick(who is at the moment and has been for many years, Fatherless!). He was
married to Mary Whitty/Witty in Sydney, Nova Scotia in November 1807. Although I have no
additional information on him, I am certain he came from England and is out of the
Capstick tree from Yorkshire/Westmorland. I have been able to find only two children from
William and Mary with the names of William and Thomas, as you know, well founded names in
the Capstick tree. I should mention that William and Mary were married through a marriage
bond issued by the Governor of Nova Scotia at the time. A bond was usually issued when one
or both members of the proposed marriage was unknown to the clergy performing the cermony
and was to insure there were no impediments which might disrupt the marriage. William had
to put up 100 pounds as assurance. Image, 100 pounds in 1807!!
I am suspecting that my William Capstick(Sr.) and William Capstick, born 1768 and the
son of Edmond Capstick, may be one and the same. Edmond's son would have been only
about 16 when his father died, still young enough to be taken in by family but cdrtainly
old enough to venture out on his own. If they are one and the same then he would have been
about 39 years of age when he married in Sydney. His wife could have been a few years
younger(say 35-36) which might explain why I can only find two children. I should mention
that my William(Jr.) was born about 1809 and Thomas about 1811/12..
My William and Thomas both married in Nova Scotia, William about 1836 and Thomas about
1840/41 which would suggest that they were quite likely in their twenties when they came
over(assuming they were born in England).
Your thoughts on the above are very appreciated. And yes, I would very much like to see
your database of Capsticks.

Bill C.
