OK, here goes.
I'm sure I've bored everyone on the list to tears in my searching for a way
to get Jonathan and Joseph back across the Atlantic, but new info has come
to light. Remember my previous post about their mother Elizabeth and her
husband Nathan? Well, forget about Nathan -- it appears that she married
him late in life -- he was the widower of Jonathan's wife's mother! Which
raises the question of who the Capstick was here...was Elizabeth a single
CAPSTICK mom of two small boys, or did she have them, her CAPSTICK husband
died, and she came to the USA?
What I do know:
Elizabeth, Jonathan and Joseph arrived in the US 21 Aug 1829 into New
York
on the ship _Dalhouse Castle_ out of Liverpool. Still working on
NARA
immigration records to try to find out city of origin.
Jonathan (b. 1825) and Joseph (b. 1827) lived in Ohio, USA from
mid-1840's
until they died. Elizabeth lived with Jonathan in Barnesville, OH
for at least
a little while in 1880 (per the census)...Jonathan died later that
year.
There was a Jonathan CAPSTICK born (per primary records, IGI says
christened) 4 Jun 1827 in Bury, Lancashire to a Thomas and Eliza, I wonder
if this might be my guy -- does he belong to anyone out there?
So basically, I was wondering if anyone had any known ties to either the
Thomas/Eliza/Jonathan group, or the Elizabeth/Jonathan/Joseph group so it's
easier for me to rule them in/out.
Thanks as always,
