When i first subscribed to the list, Tim did ask for a brief note about
our connections so here goes.
My branch of the Capstick family has been living in northern Cape Breton
Island since about 1800 - 1838, as they were listed in Sydney, NS in
1807 when the first William Capstick married Mary Whitty at St. George's
Anglican Church.
William is supposed to have been a sailor or enlisted man who left the
ship "Shannon" but the family has not been able to trace any connection
to the ship or navy enlistment in our searches.
His decendents , myself included, still live in northern Cape Breton,
some still in a place called Capstick which was named for the family. I
have a data base of several thousand decendents and family connections
from this area who have moved all over the world.
I also have a data base of early settlers to the northern Cape Breton
area of Cape North, which encloses a geographical area from Meat Cove
and Pleasant Bay to Ingonish. This data base will soon be available in
our local museum and comprises over twelve thousand names taken from our
local museum records and is in the process of being checked for errors
and omissions now.
Anyone who could help connect up our family with any British branch of
the family would be greatly appreciated.
