Re-posting this, never heard anything last time...is NO ONE researching
Clapham?! Thanks for your patience!

Hi all --
Many of you may know of my interest in finding my Elizabeth Capstick and her
husband, both of whom have proven elusive across the Atlantic. Elizabeth
(?maiden name) was born in 1803 and came to the USA in 1829 with her 2
children Jonathan and Joseph. I've never been able to find out anything
about her husband. This led me to a genealogist in England who checked into
some military records for me. A U.S. documents (census mostly) list
Elizabeth's birthplace as Ireland, so we checked military records for units
with service in Ireland about the right time. One record which looked
particularly interesting was for Robert Capstick of Clapham who served in
the Third Foot Guards which apparently had some service in Dublin in 1824:
From WO97 Soldier's Documents PRO Kew London
"WO97/160
Discharge of Robert Capstick on 5th April 1827
Aged 25, served 3 years 10 months
Cause of discharge: Consumption
Conduct: Good
Birthplace: Clapham, York(shire)
Height: 5foot 9inches
Occupation: Labourer
Hair: Lt Brown
Eyes:Grey
Complexion:Fair
(Rate of pension per day) 6d (ie sixpence)"
"Third Regiment of Foot Guards
Robert Capstick, born in the parish of Clapham, county of York, was enlisted
at Preston, county of Lancashire, for the above regiment, on 28th July 1823,
at the age of 22 for unlimited service
Served three years and 285 days
Discharged by authority of the Commander in Chief dated 2 April 1827 in
consequence of Consumption
Discharged at London 5th April 1827"
I am hoping someone has information on this Robert Capstick, either to
confirm or deny the possibility that he may be Elizabeth's husband and/or
father of Jonathan and Joseph. Elizabeth's maiden name would be awfully
nice too... ;)
IGI has a Robert Capstack son of Richard christened 21 Nov 1800 which could
be an OK fit as well...
Thanks in advance & all good things,
-- Tim Capstack
