Hello Folks,
I have been stuck with a problem that some one may be able to help me with. I can not find
a birth registration for my G. Grandfather, John Capsticks. Known facts and clues are:
1. Married Mary Ann Marriner, 27 December 1859 at Crescent Chapel, Everton, West Derby and
Toxteth Park registration District, Liverpool, Lancs.Occupation: Joiner. Age 24 when
married.
2. His father and mother were Joseph Capsticks & Mary MacIntosh.
3. There are 3 children recorded in the 1881 census:
Joseph Capstick Age 21b.Newcastle on Tyne. Northumberland
John Capstick Age 16 b. Earlstown Lancs.
Ellen Capstick Age 13 b. Earlstown Lancs
Margaret Capstick Age 3 b.Liverpool Lancs
4. John Capsticks died on 02MAR1880, just before the 1881 census.
I suspect John Capstick was a non-conformist (see where he was married). I have no idea
where he was born. His age when married gives a calculated birth between 27December,1834
and 27 December, 1835.
The IGI produced 10 John Capstick's birth/christenings between 1829 and 1839, two of
which fall into that time span;
a. John Capstick Christened 28SEP1834 Kendal, Westmorland
b. John Capstick Christened 11APR1835 Curzon Street Primative Methodist, Burnley,
Lancs.
The 11APR1835 christening gives the wrong father and mother, and so does the 28SEP1834
christening (his father's name - Joseph Capsticks was given on his marriage cert.)
Unfortunately, formal birth recording did not start until 1837, and both of these possible
candidates were born before then, so St Catherine registration is not available.
Has any Capstick out there any advice, or further connecting clues which would solve my
problem. I really am dead-ended!
