Hello All!
My great grandmother's death certificate *finally* came in the
mail and I now have the names of her parents, so I thought I
would list them in case they are familiar to any of you.
My great grandmother was Alice Capstick. Per her death
certificate she was born March, 1857 in England. Family records
had this as June of 1856. I am guessing the Lancashire area
because that is the area my grandfather would reference his
family being from. Alice came to the US as a child with her
parents and her brother Walter. The family was also related to
the Kershaw family who lived in Rochdale, Lancashire, England.
Alice's father was William Capstick. Her mother was Grace.
Grace's maiden name appears to be Horgraves. ( The penmanship on
the certificate leaves a little to be desired.) Both William and
Grace were born in England. They would have emigrated around
1860.
I don't know exactly where they resided, but as a young woman,
Alice joined the Christ Old Swedes Church in Upper Merion, PA.
She seems to have been fairly active in the church and appears in
church records as a godparent (1876), for confirmation (1879),
and then for her own marriage to Elwood Lamar Woodward on August
25, 1879. The record says she lived in Upper Merion at the time
of the wedding. After the marriage, she lived in Conshohocken, PA
until she died on March 8, 1916. She was buried in Gulph Mills
Cemetery.
If any of this sounds familiar, or if anyone has any hints for
finding more clues, I would love to hear from you.
