Nan, and fellow Capps researchers.
I reside in Carroll County, Arkansas, but my Capps are out of Missouri and
Tennessee. Anyway, for what its worth, what is Carroll County today has
existed only since 1869. Most of the Cappses in Carroll County today reside
in the eastern side and in neighboring Boone County. Carroll County was
formed initially in 1833, prior to Arkansas becoming a state, and was a very
big county. The state legislature went on a county creation binge in the
1860s, to the point that they pruned Carroll County down so small that it
could not legally be a county — so they grafted on the northern panhandle of
Madison County (to the west) to correct the error.
