It's great to have this CAPPS family list.
I appreciate the recent Capps cemetery lists and Capps marriages of
Weakley County, Tennessee.
This involved hard work and a good deal of time for the transcriber.
It's wonderful this info has been contributed to the Capps family list.
I found this of particular interest as my 3rd-great grandfather Wilson
Capps b. 1808 in Currituck Co. NC settled there & 2nd-great grandfather
Emerson E. Capps was born in Weakley in 1839.
However, the info on the Capps cemetries as submitted by J. Cochran to
the list on Tuesday, June 22 (and I believe transcribed by LuAnn) is
somewhat misleading.
As follows: first page of Capps cemeteries --- "Capps Cemetery Area 6 #
41 - Capps, Malachi Wilson, 1813-1861, born in Currituck County, North
Carolina. 'His wife Lydia Jones Capps died at age 48. They were
pioneer settlers and owned most of the land where Sharon, TN is now
located. Children: Wilson Malachi, Moses, Dennie'."
This is misleading to me in that I don't know if it is saying Malachi
Wilson Capps was born 1813 and died 1861 or his wife Lydia Jones Capps
was born 1813 and died 1861. In either case -- this information
would be incorrect for either Wilson Capps or his wife Lydia.
For the benefit of perphaps another descendant of Wilson Capps & his wife
Lydia Jones Capps may I clarify.
Wilson Capps (sometimes referred to as William Wilson Capps--his name
was NOT "Malachi"-- he and Lydia named a son Malachi Wilson Capps b.
1837 in Weakley Co., TN ---- Lydia Jones' father was MALACHI JONES
---therefore that's where the name "Malachi" comes in) was born 1808 in
Currituck Co. NC the son of Moses Capps and wife Cynthia (Nicholson)
Capps. Lydia Jones died PRIOR TO THE 1850 CENSUS--- as Wilson was shown
on the 1850 Weakley County, TN census with his second wife Pernicia
(Fowler) Capps. Lydia's death is estimated between 1845 and the 1850
census. By time for the 1860 census, Wilson and new wife Pernicia and
several Capps children were living in Sebastain County, ARKANSAS.
Wilson died there in 1878.
For any descedants of Wilson & Lydia or Wilson & Pernicia I have a huge
Capps family data base, which I am willing to share, and would enjoy
hearing from you.
Thank you for the Capps family list and keep up the good work!
