I have recently signed on to the CAPPS Digest and would like to
introduce myself to see if any "cousins" out there.
Some of my old information came from a long ago deceased cousin
Virginia Walton Brooks (TN), who became a member of the DAR
in the early 1940s. Her mother and my grandfather were brother
and sister. If any of you have come across the name of
Virginia W. Brooks, I would appreciate hearing from you as I have
many letters that she has written. She established the Memphis,
TN. Genealogical Society which apparently merged with the
TN Gen Society. I was told by the TN Gen. Soc. that all of Virginia's
years of hard work and "records were destroyed by mold and mildew
and that they had nothing of hers." I do plan to share some of my
information with them. I have tried to locate Virginia's daughter, but
have been unsuccessful in going through other family lines. If you
have any information, please contact me or ask her to get in touch with
me, a Mississippi cousin.
The CAPPS from the State of Virginia, are:
William CAPPS "The Ancient", b.1575 (from England to Va in 1609),
and died in Va 1637. (In my reading, I have since discovered
that there is conflicting information as to which William Capps
was called "The Ancient.").

There is suppose to be a plaque in Dr. Ramsay's memory in
St. Luke's Church in Norfolk; however, during a visit September 1998,
I could not find the plaque inside the church. The church history
building
was closed and I was only able to enter the sanctuary because someone
was decorating for a wedding that Saturday.
