Most likely this is a miss. But when I read it the eyebrows went up. You see my
William Henry Capps line has hit a dead end due to lack of information. My
great-grandmother Minnie Lee Moselle Smith married William Henry Capps after her
first two children were born. Then by "Henry" she had 11 more children.
I have never known his fathers name. But his mother was supposed to be Evelyn or
Evaline or something like that. Henry and my great-grandmother named there first
child Evvie after her. I have always be convinced (without proof as of yet) that
he'd been married before. The reason is that my great-grandmother's parents were
raising two Capps children as grand children. Since none of my great aunts and
uncles seemed to know of their exsistance (I asked the one's I could), I don't
think their mother Moselle was the mother of the two girls, Pollie and Mamie.
Henry's mother died when he was young. His father "farmed out" the
children. The
man to whom Henry was farmed out to was abusive, so Henry ran away. Where he went
in those years and who he might have married is a mystery, but his birthplace is
supposed to be somewhere near Pine Level NC, where he is buried near his mother.
The one piece of evidence I do have on him is that he had a sister named Mary who
married Charles Oliver. I know this because my Uncle Joe told me about visiting
them in North Carolina.
