Looked again at my notes for the Capper families in Indiana in 1860
census and found one who has sons named John and Daniel about the right
ages as the John and Daniel Cappers who were in Miami County, Kansas by
1880 census.
This Daniel Capper in 1860 census in Decatur County, Indiana is living
next door to the Martin Capper that I mentioned in earlier email:
1860 Decatur County, Indiana
Sand Creek Township page 934
Daniel Kapper, age 44, farmer, Indiana
Eliza " , age 45, Ohio
Elizabeth ", age 13, Indiana
John " , age 16, Indiana
Daniel " , age 11, Indiana
Elizabeth " , age 84, Virginia
next door is:
Martin Kapper, age 52, Virginia
Mary " , age 38, Indiana
Calvin " , age 23, Indiana
Elizabeth , age 19, Indiana
William " , age 16, Indiana
Daniel " , age 15, Indiana
The
Ancestry.com site shows the same Daniel Capper with a son named
John Thomas Capper who shows with the same children as the John T.
Capper who was in Miami County, KS in the 1880 census but a different
wife's name of
Mary.
This is the link to that info

Martin Capper is also in the 1850 census in Decatur County, Indiana with
the name spelled as Capper in 1850. It is spelled as Kapper in the 1860
census.
I didn't see Daniel Capper family in the 1850 census in the index but
may be misspelled and indexed under a different variation or spelling.
The
ancestry.com file shows Daniel Capper's parents as Thomas and
Elizabeth Capper. There were only a few Capper families in Virginia
including mine, with mine being from Hampshire and Frederick County,
Virginia and another Capper family who I have not connected to yet, from
Franklin County, VA. I am not familiar with the Thomas Capper family
from Virginia who may connect to either mine or the other one. I have
wondered if all the Cappers in Virginia were related in some way since
there were not very many of them, but have not found the connection yet.
Would guess that the Martin and Daniel Capper were brothers and that the
Elizabeth Capper, age 84 residing with Daniel Kapper (Capper) in the
1860 census was probably his mother. (wife of Thomas Capper
presumably).
