Hi Susan,
yes, I think the Tullygally and "Rose and Crown" Cappers are all
connected...Rose and Crown was part of the Brownlow Lurgan estate. I have William Capper,
son of Thomas, baptised 9th December 1779, Rose and Crown, Shankill Church of Ireland,
Lurgan. He married Elizabeth Hamiliton on 4th April 1821 at Shankill C of I.Curiously I
have a John, bapt 25th January 1818, son of William and Elizabeth Capper, Tullygally (was
he married twice???)this is presumably the John of William Capper who is buried also
Shankill C of I on 4th November 1837. David, son of William and Eliza Capper, Tullygally,
is baptised 18th September 1825, Shankill. I have more details about him if needed...I
also have an Elizabeth of William and Eliza, Tullygally, bapt 1st Feb 1829, Shankill C of
I...then a Mary, bapt 25th April 1832, daughter of William and Eliza, Tullygally, Shankill
C of I, Lurgan...I have a copy of the baptism record, there is a illegible scroll next to
Mary, perhaps this is an "Ann"...
There is a William and Mary Capper Tullygally who have John bapt in 1818...how they fit in
is anyone's guess!! James of William and Margaret Capper 4th June 1820!!
William, father of your Mary (Ann) died 10th December 1866 Tullygally...I have a death
cert...he was also Master of Loyal Orange Lodge Number 24 Rose and Crown in 1825
(
www.armaghorange.co.uk/1825.htm) There are Freeholder Records on
www.proni.gov.co.uk
about him in Tullygally leasing land off Charles Brownlow, Tithe Applotment Records as
well
William's father Thomas may be the Thomas, Rose and Crown, buried Shankill on the 5th
of November 1785. There is a lease dated 16th September 1784: lease of part of Tullygally
containing 7 acres 1 rood 17 perches from the 1st of May 1784, for the lives of John, son
of Robert Kimmon of Tegnavin, aged 8 years, WILLIAM; son of THOMAS Cappper, one of the
lessees aged 4 years, Michael son of John Capper of Tullygally aged 3 years. Rent to be
paid 5 pounds ten shillings fourpence. I am directly related to the John, father of
Michael. He also had Abraham who is my direct ancestor. Now who your Thomas' father
is, I can't tell you unfortunately...I have an intermeiadate Michael Capper who has
"my" John, as well as a Diana and another Michael but no Thomas that I know
of....I was at the Public Record Office in Belfast last year and gathered this information
and made copies of leases, baptism, marriage death entries from the Shankill registers.
They are brilliant though extremely diffi!
cult to read in parts and a few pages really are illegible! Please let me know if you
need any further info! I assume that we are related in some way!! best wishes Giles
