Hi Heather,
I haven't seen any replies to your query posted on the Caples list, so
don't know if you're still "truly lost" in Oregon, but I can help if you
are.
My mom and your grandmother, Harriette Doris Caples, would be (were) second
cousins, making you and I third cousins once removed.
Here's for starters:
Jesse R. Caples b. September 22, 1869 Cowlitz County, Washington; d.
October 27, 1950 Portland, Multnomah, Oregon; buried Forest View Cemetery,
Forest Grove, Oregon; m. Ida May Thomas May 14, 1895. Ida May Thomas b.
September 13, 1873 Ames, Story, Iowa; d. September 25, 1941 Portland;
buried Forest View Cemetery.
Jesse and Ida May had three children: Elvira May, Helen May and Gail
Stewart.
Jesse R. Caples is the son of John W. Caples and Harriet Louise Gilson. His
siblings were Conrad C., John Bert, Arthur B. (my great grandfather), and
Ora Dell.
And etc. and etc. I have a pretty extensive Caples family tree on my
homepage; please take a look and I'll be happy to answer any questions I
can. You'll find Jesse' ancestors back to the 1400's and a bit of data on
each spouse as well. My one concern is that my records indicate that
Harriette Caples was married to George W. Hoover, so I must assume for now
that her marriage to John Leslie Klavohn was her second. I look forward to
hearing from you, and must say it is quite exciting to "find" a Caples
descendant so closely related!

I hear ethereal whispers persuasive, soft and still,
"Daughter, if you don't remember us, who will?"
