Well, let's see if I've done this right. I couldn't figure how how to post
the this link until I went back to the first message, and hopefully this is
correct.
I did some genealogy work on my family back in the 60s, set it aside for
about 20 years, did the same thing again, but am now back to it.
Re the Caplis part of my family:
My greatgrandmother Julia Caplis married my grandfather James McGurk in NW
La. in the late 1850s. She had emigrated to La. through New Orleans with her
brothers John and Edmund, and possibly other family members. She lived in
Minden, La area where she died in 1896. Her brothers lived south of Bossier
City/Shreveport area where some members of the family still live.
I went to Ireland several years ago, and learned --who knows how reliable the
info -- that the Caples are from England and the Caplis are Irish. The info
pointed me to an area of Tipperary county where I found a Caplis lady whose
family had an Edmund and a John. Unfortunately, my time in Ireland was very
limited and my life harried at that time, so I never contacted her again.
Anyway, there is a branch of Caplis' in Louisiana.
