I have looked at the William Capers (1783-1839) line. I can tell you that a Susan
Wingate Capers was the wife of James Hickson Capers(b.1815). He was William's 7th
child. James married a Susan Wingate on April 10,1839 in Linden, Alabama, Marnengo Co.).
She died on July, 8,1901, Manchester RR, Texas. So this appears to be your Susan. They
appear to have had a daughter also named Susan who died at age 13 in 1856.Other children
were Richard Busbie(b.1840),Bob Hardy (b.1847), William Walter(b.1852), Jesse Estelle(b.
1850).
Susan's parents were William Wingate (b.3-9-1792) and Mary Ann (b.10-6-1793). Do
not have her maiden name. Susan was born 9-28-1819. Where the Wingates were from I do not
know. I do not have a date of death for James Hickson son of William Capers.
So you would definitely appear to be related to the South Carolina line through
William Hickson Capers son James Hickson Capers.
This Capers line is a very famous South Carolina family. Geroge Sinclair, the father
of the original James who moved to LA was a Capt.( not major) in the Revolution with
Francis Marion. His brother William was a Major with Marion. They are buried in a cemetery
outside Sumter,SC which I visited several years ago. There are several books on the Capers
including "Capers Connections" by Ellison Capers IV but none of them have much
on the Lousiana or Alabama lines. I am working on a book which will include much on the
Louisiana and South Carolina families but not much on the Alabama line. Although like I
said I do not know much about Nancy or Thomas of Louisiana. This would require research in
Nachitoches which I have not been able to do. I live in Richmond,VA.
