(I am crossposting this information to all of the lists to which I belong.
I think this is very important information for all genealogists and I do
hope that List Owners will forgive me this indiscretion.)
I expect that either your ISP or your email reader is blocking attachments.
Many people set their readers to block the horribly obnoxious porn messages
that are plagueing the internet. In either case, there is so little traffic
in this List that I would recommend unsubscribing from the Digest mode and
subscribing to the List mode which solves the ISP attachment problem.
For those who do not object to the attachments, go to 'Tools' 'Options'
'Security' and uncheck the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened.
. ." checkbox (I redcommend that this option be unchecked or you will never
get an attached gedcom or family picture).
For those of you who object to the emails cluttering up your inbox and need
an alternative, set up message rules that automatically transfer {BURNETT]
emails into a Burnett folder. I have 37 folders set up to catch my
genealogy list messages when they arrive as follows:
-- For Outlook Express users, that would be 'Tools' 'Message rules'
'Mail'.
-- Click on the 'New' button on the right and then choose the second option
in window pane #1 (where the subject line contains) and the first option in
pane #2 (move it to a specified folder).
-- In the pane at the bottom, there is a set of directions with two areas in
blue (active).
-- Click on the first and enter [[BURNETT]] then click Add. Enter Burnett
and click Add. Enter Burnet and click Add. (Any message received with one
of those three strings in the Subject line will be captured.
Ever get one of those emails that open windows as quickly as you can close
them? I highly recommend that you install a pop-up stopper on your system
to prevent those awful pop-unders/overs. I use the free Pop-up Stopper
www.panicware.com but there are several out there.
You can also set up a rule to catch much of the porn that arrives and
transfer it directly to your trash can. Set it to look for terms like XXX,
sex, etc. but be careful, so many of the off-color words are perfectly good
in other contexts and you can easily delete wanted mail.
I hope this helps.
Take Care -- Paul

Of late I am receiving a number of messages from Burnett-L which
gives a
topic but there is nothing in the message on this topic and no attachment.
Is this normal or do I have a problem somewhere. A copy of the last
message
received is below.
