Julia
Ann CAPEHEART/Gephardt Walker. Julia Ann Capeheart was born in 1834 at
Indiana. In 1854 she married James Fitzpatrick Walker at Missouri. They
settled (and later died) at Texas. On their marriage record Julia's
surname is shown as "Capeheart". Was her name really "Gephardt"?
Capehart/Capeheart is the Anglicized version of the German name
Gephardt/Gebhardt. I have found one ancestor whose name shows up in Kentucky
tax records as Capehart, Caphart, and Gabhart. It changed spelling each year.
It probably depended on whether the person who wrote the name down recognized
it as a German name or wrote down what they heard when the person saying the
name spoke it.
I checked my census records for Missouri and don't find your Julia Ann
Capehart, although there was a Julia Ann Jackson in the 1860 census whose
daughter Susan (born in Indiana in 1839) married Aaron Capehart (b. WV).
Aaron and Susan had a daughter named Julia (b. 1868).
I wonder if your Julia Ann Capehart is somehow tied in to this family.
