Hello listers,
I am new to the Cape list and thought I would post my Cape interest.
James Cape was born in 1828 in England, married Mary Brown in 1850 at
Dalston, England. They immigrated to USA in 1857 and settled in Indiana.
James enlisted with the 73rd Indiana Volunteers during the Civil War, and
died on 21 March 1863. Mary Brown Cape was born in 1826 in Dalston, England
and died in Oct 1908 in Topeka, Shawnee, Kansas. She was buried in Silent
City Cemetary in Holton, Jackson, Kansas. She had moved to Holton in 1878.
Their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Cape was born 10 October 1858 in Westville,
LaPorte, Indiana. She married William McCauley on 11 December 1875 in Three
Oaks, Berrien, Michigan. They moved to Holton, Kansas in 1881. Mary Cape
McCauley died 6 June 1925 in Holton. Mary and William are both buried in
Silent City Cemetary in Holton.
The long and short of it is that I am unable to locate the 1860 Census
records for LaPorte County, Indiana and would like to know if James and Mary
(Brown) Cape had other children. I am in the process now of trying to
acquire the service record of James Cape from the National Archives and
Records Administration in Washington, D. C.
If any fellow listers knows of this family, I would enjoy hearing from you.
Happy hunting!!
