This is just my estimation on how to spell the name, but it could very well be the same as
your spelling. I found my ancestor, who married Felix West, son of Amanda Williams West,
and lived in Edgefield, then Greenwood County, S.C.
Felix West married Mary Jane Canty (Cantey?) and they had two children, George, who
married Geneva ?, and Lelia (Lillie); Lillie married Robert Louis Hills Nelson, my
grandfather, and they had 9 sons and 1 daughter, my mother, Martha Jane Nelson Williams
(married to my father, Kay David Wills Williams (Willie David Williams), and I am one of 9
children, doing the research. Now, I know some of the Canteys in Greenwood, S.C., and I
will look up the one that I knew, to establish a baseline. Her name was Mary Jane Cantey
(Canty), and she had some nephews and nieces, who lives there now. As a matter of fact,
one was a classmate of mine, named James Wardlaw, whose wife is June Coleman. James has
one brother named John Louis Wardlaw. Their mother was Cousin Mary Jane Cantey's
neice, so I will contact them for what they might know to see if our lines intersect with
your's. By the way, my Mary Jane's mother was named Cynthia, born in 1848, and her
father was named James. I wil!
l look up Cynthia's maiden name. Oh, Boy, look at all of the other information out
there that we are drawn into with this research. That is another amount of information I
do not know - not only the Cantey problem for me. (Smile).
I will keep you posted on what I find.
Thanks,
Marian Williams Carter, Hollywood, S.C.
