Hello Peggy,
My family surname is also KENTY. My ancestor was Terence CANTY who left County Cork in the
late 1700s where he was in a local militia and a loyalist. In Nova Scotia he enlisted in
the army for a few years and when mustered out settled on land given to him in the Hants,
Gays River, Nine Mile River area. He marr Elizabeht LEPPERT from Lunenburg, NS. IN a land
document he gives land to several of his children who used the surname of KENTY, while he
was known by CANTY. In his obit he was still CANTY. A strange situation and I will., most
probably, never know why!
The land was not good for farming and by the mid 1800s many of the male descendants had
moved into the US, and some could have gone to other places. I have focused on my own
line, which is quite enough as I live in Sc and researching in Canada is a bit difficult.
Thanks you for noting my message. Marjorie
