"Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You preserve
my life; with Your right hand You save me. The LORD
will fulfill His purpose for me; Your love, O LORD,
endures forever." (Psalm 138:7,8 NIV)
As I sat in the waiting room I prayed silently, "Please
God, help me, I am tired and I just want the testing
and doctor appointments to be over. What purpose does
all of this have LORD?"
As I finished my prayer another woman came in and sat
down. She looked anxious and weak. I didn't know why she
was there, but I empathized with how she looked. Our
eyes met and we both made thin lined smiles to each
other.
She then asked me why I was there and I told her the
test they were going to be doing. Without any hesitation
she started to explain how she had been feeling, that her
doctor did not understand her symptoms and had sent her
to another doctor who ordered testing. This was how my
journey had started as well. She did not know anything
about the test they were going to be doing, and asked me
if I had ever had that test done.
I told her yes. For several minutes she asked questions
and I answered them as best as I could. The tension started
to go out of her face and I could see she was able to
relax. Soon, the nurse came and called my name. I reached
out and gently touched the woman's hand and said, "God be
with you."
After my test was over I was told to wait in the waiting
area. The woman was also there. This time she turned to me
with a big smile. She still was in pain, but she told me
that she was able to go through the test without many worries
and was grateful we had talked.
I was grateful to the LORD, for He was the one that had
put the two of us together. And, then I knew, at least for
that moment, the purpose the LORD God had for me that day -
to help this woman with her anxieties. I have not seen
her since, but I understand how the LORD'S hand is upon
each of our lives no matter what conditions we may be in.
