Jenny,
Yes, Dorothy's parents were Ellis and Jane Jones. In the log of the
"Submission" which sailed from Liverpol on 15 Jul 1682 and arrived in
Choptank, Maryland, 21 Sep 1682, was the following:
Ellis Jones, age 45, Jane Jones 40, Barbara Jones 13, Mary Jones 12,
Dorothy Jones 10 and Isaac Jones age 4 mos. In 1684 a law was passed in
the courts of England directing that all inhabitants in the colony
register in their respective counties, so their movement between
counties and colonies could be known to authorities. The lists are not
complete, indicating that the law was never completely carried out. The
lists cover the period May 1684-August 1687. In the partial list of
families who resided in Bucks County, PA, prior to 1687, is:
"Ellis Jones of Wales in County of Denby or Flint, and Jane, his wife,
came in the said 'Submission' and arrived at the time aforesaid.
Children Barbara, Dorothy, Mary and Isaac. Servants to the Governor
these came."
I have heard that Jane's maiden name was Evans, but have not seen it
proven. They were apparently married in England (Wales?) as their four
children were born over there. There is a marriage record "Marriage
Records before 1699" of Ellis Jones and Jane Jones marrying 28 November
1686 in Philadelphia; this may have been something required by the
Quakers if they didn't recognize the earlier marriage (maybe they were
married out of unity, etc.).
Ellis' Will (Will Book "E", page 60, File #63 1727, Register of Wills,
City of Philadelphia, PA) was dated the "Twenty Second day of yr 3
months In yr year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and twenty
two." Jane's Will (Will Book "E", pg. 204, File 278 1732, Register of
Wills, City of Philadelphia, PA), was dated "ye Third Day of August in
the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty." She had a
codicil added onto the Will dated 7 December 1732, probably just before
she died.

Has anyone else heard of this? The web site I found it on:

doesn't seem to work anymore and I don't have an e-mail address for Diana.
