Elsie, I appreciate your input, but unfortunately there are a LOT of
posters (me especially) that aren't computer savvy and have no idea
what you're even talking about (me again), let alone have any idea
how to do it (double especially me!).
Every other list I'm on (about 20) DO have the "prepend" you speak of;
first time I've ever even heard that word - interesting word - it's not
in the New Webster's Dictionary nor Roget's Thesaurus dated 1992...is
this another one of those "computer-geek" only words?
Unfortunately, not all persons sending messages are savvy enough to
realize they should do a "subject" line when sending mail - it would
just make it easier all the way around if ONE person were to make a
change (list admin) than to try and train those of us who are not
fortunate enough to understand computers.
Personally, I always have a tendency to overkill, so not only do I put
a name in the subject line, but lots of other info too; sometimes most
of the body of what I'm sending, to the dismay of some folks ... LOL.
Since genealogists as a whole are generally older (me) and either don't
have the patience, (me) nor the desire (me again) to deal with anything
further than what we already are doing, it would behoove the list admin
to make it user-friendly for all, including those of us that are a bit
computer disabled (guess who?) - sort of like ADA and reasonable
accomodations?... LOL ...
BTW - you're extremely fortunate to be able to do all this stuff you
speak of - my poor comp-whiz son would be thrilled if his dear old mom
could even change the ink in the printer by herself! ... LOL.
Norma in Rio Linda, CA (BTW - if you listen to Rush Limbaugh, then you
are aware of us Rio Lindan's ... so now you know why! ...... ROFLMAO!!!)

If a message is sent to the list with no subject, that is the fault of the
sender. It's not the responsibility of the list software or the list
administrator to plug in a subject for the forgetful person.
Having the surname (Cantrell in the case of this list) in the list mail
subject line is technically called a "prepend". I use the filters in my
e-mail software to sort list mail into separate folders. That way, I don't
have to depend on an arbitrary string of characters in the Subject line to
tell me that the mail is of interest to me.
I guess what I'm saying is that I can handle mail which has a prepend as
well as the mail which doesn't, so it matters not to me. Each member of
the list should strive to use a meaningful subject line.
