Hello all fellow Cantrell researchers.
I wanted to let you all know that if you have ancestors who may have
married in Navarro county, Texas, their original marriage license may
be at the court house. These are the originals, not copies. The county
didn't always mail these out to the couples as they do now. For
various reasons, they were never picked up. There is no charge for
these by the county at this time as they don't belong to the county,
but should have been in the hands of your ancestors years ago. There
are an estimated 20,000 plus of these old licenses, some as old as
1850!! I was attempting to index them and physically sort them, until
the county clerk changed his mind. I have all of the "A"s through
"M"s
on disc and the licenses are at the court house in alphabetical order.
All the "N"s through "Z"s are separated into boxes but not in
alphabetical order. There are 15 computer paper boxes stuffed full of
licenses.
The licenses for the following Cantrell grooms were at the Navarro
county, Texas court house as of April of this year:
(Note that the dates are issue date, not marriage date or date of
recording. )
