Joseph married a Elizabeth their son is Joshua who married Ann Graham
Elizabeth died and Joseph married Sarah Hilliard
They are the parents of Stephen, Sarah and Delilah.
Sarah had been married before to Mr Edwards

between 1864 and Nov. 1783 in VA.
Sarah was a widow when she prepared her will 4 Nov. 1783 in Bedford Co., VA,
and it was probated 22 March 1784. It was recorded in Book #1, page 459 in
Bedford County.
The will is as follows: Last Will and Testament of Sarah Cantrell
In the name of God, Amen, the fourth day of November, One Thousand and Seven
Hundred and Eighty Three, Sarah Cantrell of Bedford Co., Va being very sick
and weak in body, but perfect mind and memory, thanks be unto God, therefore
calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed
for all women once to die, do make and ordain this as my list Will and
testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend
my soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it, and my body, and I
recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the
discretion of my Executors noting doubting, but at the general resurrection
I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching.
Such wordly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life. I
give, demise, and dispose of the same in the following manner and form:
First, I give and bequeath to John Edwards, my eldest son and Mary Taylor
the wife of Christopher Taylor all bonds due on Edwards Estate, my former
husband, to be equally divided between the said John and said Mary, also
I give unto the said John and Mary and Sarah Cheetwood, the wife of Joel
Cheetwood, and also Stephen Cantrell and Delilah Nowland, the wife of
William Nowland,
The remainder of my estate after my debts are paid to be equally divided
between John and Mary and Sarah and Stephen and Delilah, only I give unto
Glover Davenport his crop of corn that is now on the ground. I likewise
constitute, make, and ordain my sole Executors, John Edwards and Joel
Cheetwood of this my last will and testament and hereby (Wills and legacies
all, and every former Executors) utterly disanull all and every other former
testaments, by me in any ways before named, willed, and bequeathed ~
nullifying and confirming this and no others to be my last will and
testament. In writing where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day
and year above written.
Sarah Cantrell (her seal) Signed sealed and published pronounces and
declares by the said Sarah Cantrell as her last will and testament in the

Sarah Cantrell First William EDWARDS and later to a CANTRELL, probably
Joseph CANTRELL.
Her will filed 4 November, 1783 in Bedford County, VA., indicates
She had a son, Stephen CANTRELL, and daughters Sarah (CHITWOOD) and
Delilah (NOLEN). She was also the mother of Capt. John EDWARDS and
Mary EDWARDS.

Court - 2 May 1783 Washington Co VA, (p.1149-1150), Joel CHITWOOD proves
Three days attendance as a witness in the suit, Sarah CANTRELL against Aaron
LEWIS and traveling 180 miles. Also Stephen CANTRELL proves three days
Attendance in the same suit. CANTRELL vs LEWIS, Order of Dedimus.
Court - 20 May 1784 Washington Co VA (p.1181) Ordered that the Clerk
agreeable
To the Decree of November Court 1783 in the suit Aaron LEWIS against Sarah
CANTRELL, deliver the Bonds of Aaron LEWIS to Sarah CANTRELL unto the said
LEWIS.

Aaron LEWIS to Sarah CANTRELL (He of Washington Co VA and she of Bedford Co
VA, for 90 pounds - 140 Acres on South Fork of Cherokee Creek.

In September 1994,1 determined that Sarah CANTRELL's maiden name was
Sarah HILLIARD. According to the College of William Mary's publications,
"The William Mary quarterly", Series 1 - Volumne 5, page 264, it is stated,
"Bartholomew SELDEN, d. 1727, son of Samuel, m. (1) Anchilly ANCHILLY, d.
1722, daughter of Joseph ANCHILLY (d. 1700). Proven by Chancery Suit in
Lancaster County, VA. He md. (2) Sarah HILLIARD. She md. (2), William
EDWARDS." In Series 1, Volume 5, page 61, of the WM Quarterly, it states,
"William EDWARDS, m. before 1740, Sarah HILLIARD SELDEN, widow of
Bartholomew." Another statement on p.264 regarding Bartholomew's first
wife says, "Achilly died without issue in 1722. Bartholomew then md. Sarah
HILLIARD, who survived him, md. Wm. EDWARDS, and d. in 1777
In Series 1, Volume 9, page 105 and 106 concerns the Last Will and
Testament of Bartholomew SELDEN and refers to both his 2nd wife, Sarah
HILLIARD SELDEN and William EDWARDS.
Stephen Cantrell, b. 28 Feb 1756 Abingdon, Washington Co., VA, d. 5 Feb 1827
Sumner Co., TN; m. Mary Blakemore. He was son of Sarah ___ and and unknown
Cantrell. His mother, Sarah, was first married to an Edwards; she married
Cantrell ca 1756.
Sarah Cantrell and Joel Chitwood are my ancestors.
