Hi!
Does anyone know which Cantrell that Cantrell Creek
is named for? This creek empties into the S. Mills
River in the Pisgah National Forest in Henderson and
Transylvania Counties, NC. Dr. Carl Schenck built
a lodge near there for his forest rangers. Only the
chimney survives now as the main part of the structure
was moved to the Cradle of Forestry. I know my
ggg-grandfather, Samuel Cantrell, settled in Buncombe
and Henderson Counties around Mud Creek and Crab
Creek. He could have been near that other creek before
getting his land on Mud Creek. Just curious as to who
it is named for-ole Samuel or one of his many
children. There is also a Cantrell Mountain nearby.
Any ideas? Thanks!!
